Scholastic Art & Writing Competitions Advantage with Tape-Breaking Numbers of Keys
Students in the Visual Arts and Creative Writing departments accept won an unprecedented corporeality of awards from the Scholastics Art & Writing Awards: sixteen Golden, 54 Silver and 76 Honorable Mentions.
Miami Arts Charter School (MAC) students in the Visual Arts and Creative Writing departments take won an unprecedented amount of Gold and Silver Keys from the Scholastics Art & Writing Awards and its co-sponsor, Alliance for Immature Artists and Writers (AYAW), Alfred de la Rosa, Founder and Director of Miami Arts Charter has announced.
Visual Arts students in both middle and loftier school won a total of 3 Gold Keys, 15 Silver Keys and 27 Honorable Mentions. One of the Gold Keys was awarded for a senior portfolio, which is a collection of piece of work in several different genres that's selected by the student for judging.
Visual Arts Chair Andrea Preston attributed much of their success to our talented faculty member, Michelle Girardello, who earned more awards in the Photography category than any other teacher in the county.
"I am and so proud of the incredible progress our students have made this year. It's no surprise they took home 46 Scholastic Art Awards," she said. "Nosotros are especially proud of our senior, Maria Cardona, who earned a Gold Primal for her Portfolio."
Michelle Girardello, Creative Photography Manager, agreed. Creative Writing students were handed xiii Gilt Keys, 39 Silvery Keys and 49 Honorable Mentions. Three of the Aureate Keys were awarded for senior portfolios. In addition, one student, Catherine Valdez, was nominated for the American Voices Award (AVA), along with only iv other students from the region. (One of the five nominees volition win the AVA.)
The overall number of top awards has probable ready a record for Miami-Dade County schools. "I haven't done the math, only I think MAC has made history equally having the strongest showing of top winners from any ane school," Michael Bell, who directs Miami's local chapter Miami Writes, said. Scholastics, a national organization that has been offer awards in the arts since 1923, offers awards and scholarships in 28 art and writing categories. AYAW, a non-turn a profit organization, was created in 1994 to expand the accomplish and breadth of the program.

In Miami, the Visual Arts winners were feted in a prestigious anniversary at the Miami Fine art Museum (MAM) on January 20, 2013. Creative Writer Gold Central winners will read their work in a special ceremony in March, 2013, at the Miami-Dade Youth Fair and Exposition, where all the entries that were entered will be displayed. The poems, stories and essays volition also be published in an album.
The awards program sees an average of 200,000 entries annually, and less than 5 pct of the work entered wins a Gold Primal. National awards volition exist appear by March xv.
